DIY Glowing Porch Lantern
Materials
2 silver metal kitchen colanders
1 bright warm white LED puck light
4-6 medium-sized zip-ties
1 small chain or hook for hanging (optional)
1 pair of scissors or wire cutters
Directions
Place one colander upside down on a flat surface.
Position the LED puck light in the center of the colander, facing downwards.
Place the second colander right-side up over the first, sandwiching the LED puck light between them.
Align the colander handles so they match up.
Use the zip-ties to secure the colanders together by threading them through the holes near the handles. Tighten securely.
Trim any excess from the zip-ties using scissors or wire cutters.
If you wish to hang the lantern, attach a small chain or hook to the colander handles.
Test the LED puck light to ensure it illuminates well through the colander holes.
Variations & Tips
To customize this lantern, consider painting the colanders with a metallic spray paint in colors like copper or gold for a different aesthetic. You could also use colored LED puck lights to match your outdoor decor or seasonal themes. If you want a more rustic look, consider using wooden bowls with drilled holes instead of metal colanders. Always ensure that the LED light is suitable for outdoor use to prevent any weather-related issues.
